  2. What is Sustainable Development • Sustainable Development is inevitable for the world to sustain the impact of manmade errors. Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is an effort to bring sustainability in our education system that will help individuals and groups to find solutions for sustainability challenges. Recognising the efficacious effect of sustainability, organisations are coming up together to develop such an environment. • Mobius Foundation, an NGO working towards sustainability development in India, is going to organize an educational conference ICSE (International Conference on Sustainability Education)-2019 at New Delhi on 9th and 10th of September. The aim of this conference is to draw out the challenges related to sustainability education across the globe. It would try to explore the pathways to address the challenges by empowering learners with new skills, values, and attitude.

Mobius Foundation • Mobius Foundation, an NGO working towards sustainability development in India, is going to organize an educational conference ICSE 2019 (International Conference on Sustainability Education)-2019 at New Delhi on 9th and 10th of September. The aim of this conference is to draw out the challenges related to sustainability education across the globe. It would try to explore the pathways to address the challenges by empowering learners with new skills, values, and attitude.

ICSE 2019 • International conference on Sustainability Education (ICSE 2019) is planned with a view to explore pathways to address current and emerging sustainability challenges through education by empowering learners with new skills, values and attitudes that lead to more sustainable societies. The Conference is being organized as a major sustainability event to bring together thought leaders, practitioners, teachers, educators, policy makers as well as youth from around the globe to share innovative ideas, case studies, practices and policies and come forward with recommendations for incorporating environmental sustainability as a core concept in the school education system. • The Conference will deliberate upon various facets of sustainability education taking a holistic viewpoint in terms of ESD (Education for Sustainable Development), EE (Environmental Education) and Climate Change Education (CCE). It will have main focus on South Asian region particularly on school education at the primary, middle and secondary levels.

  5. Message from Chairman – Pradip Burman • Education is key to the global integrated framework of sustainable development goals. Education is at the heart of our efforts both to adapt to change and to transform the world within which we live. It is recognized as having one of the highest long-term returns on investment of all development goals. There is a need to rethink and broaden the notion of lifelong education. It should enable people to develop awareness of themselves and their environment. • ICSE 2019 has been organized with its ultimate goal of developing societies competent in the principles of sustainability and striving to live within the carrying capacity of the planet. ICSE 2019 aims to aid implementation of education for sustainable development (ESD) which is culturally-relevant, locally appropriate, occurring across national school education system.

Message from Dr. Ram Boojh, Convener, ICSE 2019 • On behalf of the organizing committee, partners and supporters, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the First International Conference on Sustainability Education being organized on 9-10 September 2019 in New Delhi. The idea to organize this Conference came from the felt need of reorienting education towards sustainability issues in the context of the global commitment for Agenda 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals. ICSE 2019 is being planned as a major International event aimed at bringing together experts, practioners and policy makers on one platform to discuss innovative ideas, practices and policies related to sustainability education with focus on school education. • We are working towards making ICSE 2019 as one of the most exciting and stimulating experience for the participants by including plenaries, technical sessions, key note speeches, case studies presentations, experience sharing sessions, thematic side events, posters and exhibitions covering diverse elements of sustainability education including environment education (EE), Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), climate change education (CCE) etc. The conference will provide the participants ample opportunities for interactions, discussion and networking with leaders in the field. We invite you to contribute your ideas and proposals about the format and content of the conference as well as action agenda for inclusion of sustainability issues in the school education system.
