  2. According to a Nemours Children's Health and Amwell survey, many parents consider telemedicine an essential service for their children. Even though they can now safely visit hospitals and clinics, over 60% of parents would like to continue using online pediatric services in the future. Interestingly, around 30% of parents who have never used telehealth before also expressed a willingness to use it. In the past few years, telehealth has gained significant popularity as it allows patients to receive quality healthcare services from the comfort of their homes.

  3. What Is Telehealth? What Is Telehealth? Telehealth is a tool for connecting your child to healthcare services. It uses technologies like live audio and video and special diagnostic tools. Telehealth can be used alongside in- person visits with a pediatrician or specialist. Telehealth allows people to access healthcare services at times and places that may not usually be possible. For example, pediatric specialists in large cities can use telehealth to treat children living hundreds of miles away in small community emergency departments. Some pediatricians can also diagnose your child remotely using a computer at home, school, or childcare facility.

  4. What Happens During a Telehealth What Happens During a Telehealth Visit? Visit? During a pediatric telehealth visit, you will have a video call with a healthcare provider who will ask your child questions, perform an examination, diagnose your child, and provide treatment, including prescribing medicines if necessary. The provider may also ask for your assistance, such as taking your child's weight and temperature, or guiding you to show a rash on camera. After the video visit, you will receive a summary of what occurred, which may be sent to your child's primary care provider. However, it is still recommended that you follow up with your primary care provider directly.

  5. Telehealth for a Wide Range of Telehealth for a Wide Range of Children's Health Needs Children's Health Needs Telehealth offers a versatile solution for addressing various pediatric conditions effectively. From managing behavioral health concerns and supporting children with complex medical needs to addressing acute illnesses and conducting routine check-ups, telehealth serves as a valuable resource. In instances where immediate medical attention is required, such as for minor ailments like rashes, colds, pink eye, or minor injuries, telehealth presents a convenient and accessible option for connecting with healthcare providers. This accessibility is particularly crucial considering that 19.8% of children in the United States have special healthcare needs, necessitating services beyond the typical scope. Unfortunately, only 43% of these children currently receive the consistent, coordinated care they require. Telehealth fills this gap, ensuring continuous, high-quality support for children with special healthcare needs. Across the spectrum of pediatric care, telehealth is facilitating ongoing management and treatment for conditions like asthma, diabetes, genetic disorders, behavioral health issues, autism, speech therapy needs, obesity, and neonatal care. By leveraging telehealth services, pediatric patients, along with their families and caregivers, can access comprehensive healthcare support more efficiently and conveniently than ever before.

  6. Pediatric Telehealth Doesn’t Replace Pediatric Telehealth Doesn’t Replace the Pediatrician the Pediatrician Pediatric telehealth should work alongside your pediatrician, rather than replace them. Your pediatrician may use telehealth to examine your child, or they may refer your child to a telehealth service with a specialist pediatrician. However, it's important to remember that no telehealth service can replace your pediatrician, who is your child's primary medical provider and deeply understands their medical history and needs.
