Guppy Fish Breeding

Let's face it, some of us don't get started. Or dog people. Or bird people. Some of us aren't good at having a pet or lifestyle without it, but it's still nice to have quiet company at the end of a long day at work. Keeping pets is healthy too. Perhaps the best solution is a pet fish, but not just any fish. There is one fish that has all the benefits of the famous easy-care goldfish but is much brighter, and that is the guppy.

  1. Guppy Fish Breeding Let's face it, some of us don't get started. Guppies don't have a particularly long lifespan, but that doesn't mean you have to keep running to the pet store to refill your tank. Guppies are easy to raise and the female can give birth to 30 to 40 fry per month. If you are interested in bringing back your stock of guppies yourself, it is not too difficult and you can even get involved in selecting and breeding them for specific styles. The only thing you need to keep in mind is that if you want to see babies grow into adults, you need to be present at birth, as adult guppies eat their babies for lunch. Huh. Gender Differences In order to keep your male and female populations separate, there are some gender differences that you will need to master. Males are smaller and more brightly colored. Females are brown in color and are larger and rounder. On the underside of the fish, the male's anal fin is longer and thinner and tapered to a point. The anal fin of the female guppy fish is large and triangular or fan-shaped.

  2. Breeding the Guppy Many beginners start with a single female guppy and suddenly become a shoal. Since female guppies can deposit sperm, some spawn only requires one male insemination to hatch. To prevent your system from maximizing its storage capacity, it is always best to divide male and female guppies. Guppies are life carriers, so the female gives birth to 10 to 50 young animals per spawn. Newly hatched fry is often eaten by other fish in the aquarium. So, if you want to save the fish, keep them in a separate tank or incubator. After raising several generations of the same population together, you may see more fish with congenital abnormalities such as crooked spines or shorter life expectancy. Inbreeding is a common phenomenon in isolated fish systems with one simple solution: more diversity! Many hobbyists choose to trade fish with a different beautiful guppy fish keeper, or they can buy new fish to add to their aquarium after they are out of quarantine.
