  1. Golden Retriever Information - Creature Companion Golden Retrievers are intelligent and loyal dogs that make ideal family companions. With their gentle nature, lustrous fur, and charming smile, they are considered one of the most popular breeds in America. Learn more about life with these benevolent pups. The golden retriever puppy is one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States, for good reason. Thanks to their friendly and tolerant demeanor, they are wonderful family dogs and capable and intelligent working dogs at the same time. These strong, medium-sized dogs grow to between 55 and 75 pounds and usually live between 10 and 12 years. Outgoing, reliable, curious, and easy to train, they are especially popular with families with young children. Goldens often maintain their fun-loving puppy attitude and trademark smile into adulthood. Golden retrievers belong to the group of sporting dogs and are active dogs that need at least an hour of exercise a day. They live up to their name; They love to bring up anything thrown at them. This makes them excellent hunting companions and experienced service dogs. They love to eat, run, spend time with their owners, and even participate in obedience and agility events. Appearance Adult male golden retrievers weigh between 65 and 75 pounds while female golden retrievers weigh between 55 and 65 pounds. Their complexion ranges from light gold to cream and deep gold to gold, and their physique can range from broad and dense to slimmer and sportier. By

  2. AKC standards, the gold moves with a smooth, powerful gait, and the feathered tail is carried, as fans of the breed say, with "joyful action." Golden retrievers tend to lose a lot and need frequent and regular brushing. From their breeding as waterbird hunting and retrieving dogs in the Scottish Highlands, their outer coat is dense and water-repellent. They also have a thick undercoat. Their coats can vary in texture from wavy to smooth. Large feathers are visible on the chest, hind legs, and tail. Care “Anyone considering getting a cute golden retriever puppy should know that they are getting a loyal companion that will last a lot,” Stein says. Homeowners should get used to the fact that the home includes clothing and Dog hairs are plentiful on furniture. They have a thick, water- repellent double coat that sheds moderately in winter and summer and abruptly in spring and fall. However, everything from brushing gold every day to looking at it. Before brushing can help remove tangles and some dead hair. Bathing can also help, and about once a month is recommended, but make sure the gold is completely dry before brushing. Golden retrievers also need to have their nails trimmed once or twice a month. A good indicator of trimming them is when they click on the ground. Also, teeth should be brushed at least two to three times a week. Hearing tests are also important; Goldens have folded ears which create an environment that encourages the growth of bacteria and fungi. Check for redness or bad odor and clean the outer ear with a cotton ball moistened with a mild, neutral pH ear cleaner to help prevent infection. Exercise is an integral part of a Golden Retriever’s Day. At least one hour of strenuous activity per day is required, even if it is on several different trips or stations throughout the day. The Golden can be taken with you on long runs, bike rides, hiking and swimming. They also enjoy hunting trips, field trials, and other canine sports such as agility, obedience, and tracking. A Golden that doesn't get enough exercise may display undesirable behaviors such as digging and chewing. Mental challenges, such as learning tricks and playing with puzzles, also attract Goldens, but should never replace physical activity. Make it easy for the Golden Retriever to exercise for the first two years of life, as their growth plates are still forming. Avoid long runs or walks until the dog is fully grown and always choose grass over concrete. Early puppy socialization and training classes are important for Golden Retrievers. Puppies need to be exposed to a wide variety of people, places and situations in order to adjust well to their young lives. When it comes to meal times, owners need to help Golden Retrievers manage their eating. They are overweight. Meals should be measured and given twice a day instead of skipping meals all the time. Dog treats should be administered in moderation. If you're not sure whether your Golden Retriever is overweight, get him a vision test and a practical test. Look at him first. You should be able to see the waist. Then place your hands on your back, thumbs down along the spine, fingers extended down. You should be able to feel your ribs without pressing hard, but not visible. If you can't, you'll probably need less food and more exercise. Talk to your vet about the best course of action.
