  1. Healthy Gut, Healthy Heart! We are aware of the fact that our immune system affects our heart health. But do you know that the microbes living in your gut can also be a leading factor in impacting your heart health? Well, now you do! The term "Microbiomes" refers to the trillions of microbes living inside our bodies, also known as the Human Microbiota. A majority of good and bad bacteria and viruses reside inside our intestines. These microbes help our body in the process of digestion — produce certain nutrients and release body-benefitting fluids. The Role of Gut for Your Heart Health and Diseases As an estimate, about 38 trillion micro bacteria are living in your microbiome — most of these dwelling deep inside your guts or digestive tract. Not all of the

  2. organisms residing in your body are bacteria. They consist of fungi, viruses, and other organisms as well. These bacteria are beneficial for your health. They help your body in digestion, healing, aiding the usual functioning of your body, and protecting it from damaging constituents. However, the same bacteria can also harm the other organs of your body. An unhealthy gut puts a negative impact on the body — mostly through inflammation. What is Inflammation? It is the reaction of your immune system to any foreign harmful substance. So, coming back to the point, the bad bacteria can also lead to plaque buildup in the arteries leading to atherosclerosis or aortic stenosis. What is the Impact of Your Gut on Your Cardiovascular Health? The prevalence of cardiovascular diseases is magnifying rapidly all around the world and is posing a burden to health care systems everywhere. Although CVD has varied symptoms like hypertension or cardiomyopathy — the microbiomes are also linked to cardiovascular health. And these directly affect your strength and immunity. The Oral Microbiota The community of different microbes exists on the tongue, inner cheek, inside your mouth, teeth, and attached gingiva; along with the other oral cavities. More than 500 species of bacteria are said to be found in the mouth and open cavities — associated with the healthy core microbiota. Streptococcus Pyogenes is a typical example of the members of oral microbiota — having a good grip on cardiovascular health. Oral organs carry microbes inside the body; which are carried to the heart through the blood and oxygen and react effectively or adversely as per their type. The Intestinal Microbiota In today's world, cardiovascular diseases are supported by other chronic diseases like type II diabetes, obesity, and inflammation.

  3. Metabolic Syndrome is also one of the same. It is mostly dependent on the diet of the person and is a preventable risk factor against cardiovascular diseases. In the case of diet-based obesity, the composition of the gut microbiome can be altered by overnutrition. Here, dietary nutrients can influence the growth of certain microbe species. Diets that are rich in cholesterol, simple carbohydrates, and saturated fats are related to gut microbiota. How Do We Maintain a Healthy Gut Microbiome? Probiotics and Prebiotics are the two types of dietary supplements that stimulate a healthy gut microbiome. Probiotics are made up of beneficial bacteria, and Prebiotics contains the substances that promote the growth of beneficial bacteria. Substances containing both Probiotics and Prebiotics are also available in the medical market. In addition to these supplements, certain foods are also said to restore and promote healthy gut microbiomes. Some of such food items are listed below: 1.Asparagus 2.Onions 3.Garlic 4.Flaxseed 5.Bananas 6.Apples 7.Cocoa 8.Dandelion Greens Avoiding processed food, excess sugar and fat, refined carbohydrates in your diet is also essential. These edibles foster an unhealthy gut microbiome. The Bottom-Line: Whether you already have heart disease or are at potential risk for it, understanding the role of the gut microbiome towards your heart health is crucial. It is important to be informed and guided about the right ways to induce and maintain healthy gut microbiomes.
