How Social Isolation Affects Your Health and Well-Being
Lack of social engagement and touch with others is referred to as social isolation. It can occur when an individual is physically separated from others, or when they feel disconnected from the people around them. The physical and emotional health of a person can suffer from social isolation. Symptoms of social isolation may include feelings of loneliness, sadness, and decreased motivation. Social isolation can also increase the risk of developing mental health conditions, such as depression and anxiety, as well as physical health conditions, such as high blood pressure and heart disease.
