HISTORY The university was not always a university. In 1886 a college was established by the Britishers the college known as Central college Bangalore was later transformed by UGC post-independence into Bangalore University. The university however was formed after bifurcating Mysore University in 1964. The university operated from the central college campus until 1972. In 1973 it started its operation at the Janabharathi Campus. Likewise, the university’s library is also the oldest library in all of Bangalore.
