It involves the injection of small particles into the uterine arteries to block the blood flow to the affected areas. UAE is performed under local anesthesia and typically takes less than an hour to complete. During the procedure, a small catheter is inserted through a tiny incision in the groin and threaded up to the uterine arteries. Small particles are then injected through the catheter, which block the blood flow to the fibroids or adenomyosis. This causes the affected tissue to shrink and eventually die off.
