A Ph.D student has to go across a number of steps during their entire research work starting from the preliminary topic selection, choosing supervisor, conducting experiments, to final thesis submission. Through this intensive process, research aspirants are prone to make several mistakes that could be avoided easily with a little more careful consideration. 1.Don’t extend your thesis work of post-graduation: If Ph.D scholars select a topic, which is a direct extension of their previous thesis of masters, they can’t be able to make significant value addition to the respective field of study. Scholars should better choose a radically new topic within the broad area of their specialization to make an original contribution. 2.Don’t choose an obscure, irrelevant, and non-compelling topic: Often new researchers think choosing an obscure topic will make it innovative and original, but in the long run it adversely affects them by letting their interests fall down. It further creates difficulties to find enough literature body and available sources, unless which the research will be a superfluous effort. Therefore, researchers are advised to choose such topics, which are appropriate for their knowledge and compelling for the stake holders. 3.Don’t let your supervisor choose topic for you: It is better to take supervisor’s advice while choosing research topic as they have much more experience. But don’t ask them to select the particular topic or develop research question for you. Therefore, it is advised to start all kinds of experiments with full gear from the beginning of the course. So, research aspirants are recommended to follow the above advices to avoid the mistakes that students often commit.
