Powering India using Solar Panels

The future is green! You’ve heard this phrase countless times through your life. You probably yearn for the days of air, clean and pristine, void of the effects of fossil fuels. Well, those days do not seem far off, with giant steps being undertaken to ensure the day starts green. India is already using renewable sources like wind, solar and biomass for a fifth of its energy requirements. In fact, India is currently on track to be the third largest installer of photovoltaic cells. From small rooftop panels to a predicted total capacity of 100GW by 2022, the growth has been exponential. At braingroom, we always encourage our learners to be updated in their skill set. <br><br>With the production of solar cells and modules improving with each passing day, the potential of solar seems to shine out amongst renewable options. This is further solidified by the position taken by the Ministry of Power, with abundant support given to spread the usage of solar panels. Our tropical and sunny climate means that the solar energy available in a single year exceeds the possible energy output of all of the fossil fuel energy reserves in India. Not only is solar a clean and renewable energy but switching to PV cells reduces our dependence on exports, thereby strengthening our economy.

The above reasons can explain the rise of solar tech companies in India. The 2016 manufacturing capacity of solar cells and solar modules in India was 1,212 MW and 5,620 MW, respectively, amongst the highest across the world. Companies like Vikram Solar, Waaree, Adani, Emmvee and Jackson are leading the utility-scale solar projects in India. There is an abundance of opportunities for safe and secure employment in these companies. According to a report issued by the Natural Resources and Défense Council (NRDC) last year, India may end up creating over a million new jobs in its endeavour to have 100 GW of operational solar power capacity by March 2022. Solar panel instalment can prove to be the next big booming workforce. Students with degrees and diplomas can find themselves suitably rewarded for their engineering acumen in this field. In many countries, including India, solar training institutes have sprung up, equipping students with the skill and ability to install solar panels in all environments. Most of the courses last a fortnight and provide both theoretical and practical knowledge in the basics of photovoltaic power systems, electromagnetic spectrum and radiation, designing solar power systems, testing and commissioning of solar power plants, and operation and maintenance. Such training institutes offer a variety of certification levels, be sure to take one that suits your profile. One thing to keep in mind before joining a course is the accreditation of the institute. Make sure to get a certification that guarantees your expertise in the field. Learning the techniques for solar panel installation shouldn’t be complex but it always helps to have an experienced and reputed teacher. Keeping in mind the scope and likely boom of the solar sector, now is as good a time as ever, to begin your journey under the sun.
