1. APEDA Holds Brainstorming Session To Promote millet Export 0 Millets are available in about 6,000 different varieties around the world. APEDA Workshop The Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), on 30th January’ 23, in districts of Gumla city (a millet hub) organised a one day workshop and training programme in an attempt to encourage farmers to actively participate in the agricultural export business of millets from the state. On the occasion, about 50 progressive farmers from neighbouring districts and registered exporters from all over the State, participated and exchanged views. In addition to NABARD officers, Krishi Vigyan Kendra and the Agriculture Department were present at the meeting. Mr. BK Jha, Professor at Birsa Agriculture University (BAU), as the keynote speaker at the workshop said that similar kinds of programmes are necessary to increase income levels of farmers and that due to convergence of agencies like APEDA, various departments of the Government, and private agencies, many opportunities have been brought amongst farmers to increase their income. He commanded APEDA to conduct a farmer awareness campaign at the earliest. As per Mr. BK Jha, Gumla is the hub for millet production in the state of Jharkhand where farmers work hard to grow different types of millets but due to various reasons such as lack of available markets, they are unable to secure a good price for their produce. To improve the economic conditions of the farmers, their crops ought to be sold at the right price and in the right markets.
