What Waste Should Never Go in a Dumpster

Improper waste disposal can harm the environment and pose safety risks. Items like hazardous materials, electronics, appliances with refrigerants, medical waste, flammable materials, and paint should never go in a dumpster. Proper disposal includes using specialized centers, recycling programs, and local collection events to ensure safe and responsible handling.

  1. What Waste Should Never Go in a Dumpster?

  2. When it comes to waste disposal… dumpsters can offer convenience. • However, there is a limit to what you can put in them.

  3. Today’s presentation sheds light on the types of waste that should never go in a dumpster.

  4. What Not To Put In A Dumpster

  5. #1- HAZARDOUS MATERIALS

  6. Substances that pose a serious risk to human health & the environment are considered hazardous.

  7. Chemicals, pesticides, household cleaners, etc. belong to this category.

  8. Disposing such materials into a regular dumpster may result in: Soil/water contamination… potentially harming wildlife and plants.

  9. #2- ELECTRONICS (E-WASTE)

  10. Electronic devices such as old phones, computers, & televisions belongs to e-waste category.

  11. These things often contain elements like lead, mercury, cadmium, etc. • When disposed of in a regular dumpster, they can cause long-term environmental damage.

  12. #3- APPLIANCES CONTAINING REFRIGERANTS

  13. Appliances that we rely on to keep things cool… need refrigerants to operate.

  14. Refrigerants, if not disposed of safely, can directly contribute to ozone layer depletion.

  15. Ingredients in such substances can harm local ecosystems and human health.

  16. #4- MEDICAL WASTE

  17. Medical waste like needles, syringes, and lancets… should never go in a dumpster.

  18. Unused/ expired medications, if not disposed carefully, can pose a poisoning risk to wildlife.

  19. They may even result in the transmission of diseases like HIV, Hepatitis B, etc.

  20. #5- FLAMMABLE MATERIALS

  21. To avoid the risk of fire, don’t place flammable materials like propane tanks in dumpsters.

  22. Not just propane tanks… anything that can ignite if exposed to even a small spark.

  23. They should be carefully disposed of to minimize risks to people and the environment.

  24. #6- PAINT AND PAINT THINNERS

  25. Volatile organic compounds released from such substances can: Contribute to air pollution They should therefore be handled in the most responsible way possible. Cause respiratory problems

  26. WRAPPING UP
