  2. WHY STUDY ABROAD? • To understand your discipline from another perspective • To learn and experience a new culture • To improve language skills

  3. OPTIONS Glendon students who want to study abroad for a year have three options: • Glendon • Letter of Permission • York International

  6. York International The office of York International located on the Keele Campus offers a variety of exchanges with Universities around the world. For more information visit their Website: http://international.yorku.ca

  7. LETTER OF PERMISSION Students who choose to attend a University that does not have a formal agreement with YorkUniversity MUST obtain a Letter of Permission if they want their credits to count towards their York University degree. In this case students are responsible for all the necessary arrangements

  8. ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS • Be enrolled in an Honours programme (Minimum of B average) • Have completed two years of studies • Have an adequate level of French or Spanish • Fulfill language requirements of the host university

  9. CONSIDER… • The new language • The new cultural codes • Leaving behind “security” blankets and your social safety net • The new academic expectations • The culture shock • The new environment

  10. IMPORTANT DATES For the Glendon Exchange Program, completed application forms and required documents must be submitted to the Associate Principal’s office by : Mid-January, current year • For York International Exchange, check the dates on their website.

  11. STEP-BY-STEP • Submit the application forms along with the required documents • Interview conducted by the selection committee • Committee’s decision • Student’s file sent to the host universities (done by the office of the Associate Principal) • Student receives confirmation of acceptance from the host university • Student attends pre-departure orientation session • Student receives documentation necessary for registration at the host university

  12. STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES • Research • Review of 4-year study plan • Meet with the Department Chair • Administrative duties: • Enroll in the Host University • Find accommodation • Medical insurance • Visa, etc. • Attend the mandatory pre-departure orientation session at Keele

  13. ACADEMIC INFORMATION • Europe has adopted a European Credit Transfer System called ECTS. The credit equivalence is: 60 ECTs = 30 York University credits • Enroll only in courses for Francophones • Once enrolled in your courses at the host University, send to the Associate Principal • your list of courses and • the description of these courses
