  1. Social Security Organization (SOCSO) Established in 1971 under the Ministry of Human Resources (formerly known as Ministry of Labor) benefitting employees under the Employment Injury Insurance Scheme and the Disability Pension Scheme.

  3. function • Employees are given coverage against job-related injury and disability, workplace accidents, occupational diseases and death. • Collection of employers/employee contributions, processing and disbursing claims made by salaried employees and their dependants. • Provides physical and vocational rehabilitation benefits to claimants and promotes occupational safety and health awareness.

  14. FUNGSI • Menjalankan kajian, penyelidikan, pembangunan dan analisis teknikal ke atas isu-isu keselamatan dan kesihatan pekerjaan yang wujud di tempat-tempat kerja.

Menguatkuasakan undang-undang berikut: a) Akta Keselamatan dan Kesihatan Pekerjaan 1994 dan peraturan-peraturan yang dibuat di bawahnya b) Akta Kilang dan Jentera 1967 dan peraturan-peraturan yang dibuat di bawahnya. c) Sebahagian daripada Akta Petroleum (Langkah-langkah Keselamatan) 1984 dan peraturan-peraturan yang dibuat di bawahnya. d)Menjalankan kajian dan analisis teknikal ke atas isu-isu keselamatan pekerjaan yang wujud di tempat-tempat kerja. e)Menjalankan program-program galakan dan publisiti kepada majikan, pekerja dan orang awam untuk memupuk dan meningkatkan kesedaran mereka terhadap keselamatan dan kesihatan pekerjaan. f)Memberi khidmat nasihat dan maklumat kepada agensi-agensi kerajaan dan swasta berkaitan aspek-aspek pengurusan dan teknikal yang ada hubungkait dengan keselamatan dan kesihatan pekerjaan. g)Menjadi urusetia untuk Majlis Negara Bagi Keselamatan dan Kesihatan Pekerjaan.

What is MIHA? • MIHA (Malaysian Industrial Hygiene Association) • Non-profit professional organization founded in May 2003. • Promote the field of Industrial Hygiene, provide education and training, forums for the exchange of ideas and information plus represent the interests of Industrial Hygienists • An affiliate member of the International Occupational Hygiene Association (IOHA) in pursuit of international recognition and standing.

  22. Ministry of health Services for occupational health

  23. Under the Ministry of Health, an institute is being develop for medical research purposes. It is INSTITUTE for MEDICAL RESEARCH (IMR). • Under this institute, they develop several unit such as Occupational Health Unit, Health Risk Assessment Unit, Environmental Health Research Centre (EHRC) and also others unit.

Introduction to Occupational Health Unit • conduct research and provide consultation on occupational diseases and work-related disorders. • established to ensure safe and healthy working conditions through research and dissemination of information, education and training in the field of occupational safety and health.

  25. The Unit has embarked in researches related to exposure of physical, chemical and biological hazards. • Most of the occupational health matters are being authorized by DOSH and NIOSH. Ministry of health only conduct surveillance to help those departments.

  26. Services under MOH • Hepatitis B Immunizations Program • For healthcare worker was launched as early as 1989 which further enhanced in 2006. • The worker are screened first for their antibody status • Immunization screening is done to unsure the immunity status of the healthcare worker.

  27. Sharps Injury Surveillance Program • Program for the notifications and management of staff who encounter sharps injuries in work places. • Aimed for gathering data on the sharps injuries among health care workers and developing sharps injury registry.

  28. 24 OH Clinics Operational • Located in the existing health clinics as well as in two hospital • Clinics can provide health care services: • Medical surveillance to MOH’s laboratory • Vector • Radiology staff • Medical examination, X-Ray, audiometry, spirometry and laboratory investigation are provided for workers.

  30. Further development • OSH units are proposed to be established in state hospitals under the one care system by 2020.
