MarylandSolarProgramForResidentialHomeowners TheMarylandSolarProgram,launchinginJanuary2025,isagame-changerforresidential homeownersinMaryland.WiththegoalofmakingsolarenergyinMarylandmoreaffordable andaccessible,theprogramoffersgeneroussolarincentivesinMarylandforhomeownerswho wishtoinstallsolarphotovoltaic(PV)systems.Thisnewinitiativeisanupgradedversionofthe ResidentialCleanEnergyRebateProgramandfocusesonreducingthecostofgoingsolarfor eligiblehomeowners,particularlythoseinlower-income brackets. WhatistheMarylandSolarAccessProgram? TheMarylandSolarAccessProgramoffersgrantsatarateof$750perinstalledkilowatt(kW)of solarpower.Thismeansthathomeownerscanreceiveupto$7,500infinancialassistance, dependingonthesizeoftheirsystem.Thetotalfundingfortheprogramis$15million,and fundswillbeawardedonafirst-come,first-servedbasis.Homeownersinterestedintheprogram

ToparticipateintheMarylandSolarAccessProgram,homeownersneedtofollowatwo-step process: ReserveFunds:Homeownersmustapplyforareserveofprogramfunds,ensuringtheir placeinline.TheincomelimitsandeligibilitycriteriawillbeoutlinedintheFunding OpportunityAnnouncement(FOA),whichisexpectedbytheendofDecember2024. CompleteInstallation:Oncefundsarereserved,homeownerswillhavea180-day windowtocompletetheinstallationoftheirsolarsystemandmakeitoperational.A verificationprocesswillensurethattheinstallationisproperlycompletedbeforethegrant isdisbursed. FeaturesoftheMarylandSolarAccessProgram Unlikeprevioussolarincentiveprograms,theMarylandSolarAccessProgramis income-qualified.Onlyhomeownerswhoseannualhouseholdincomedoesnotexceed150%of theaveragemedianincomeforthestateofMarylandcanparticipate.Theprogramisdesigned toprioritizethosewhoaremostinneedofassistance,ensuringthatsolartechnologyis accessibletoalargerportionofthepopulation. Theprogramalsoallowsforasix-monthinstallationwindow,whichgiveshomeownersample timetocompletetheprocesswithoutpressure.Thisflexibility,alongwiththeclearguidelines outlinedintheFOA,ensuresthattheprogramwillrunefficientlyandequitably. MarylandSolarGrant:AdditionalBenefits InadditiontotheMarylandSolarAccessProgram,homeownerscanstillbenefitfromsolar renewableenergycredits(SRECs)inMaryland.Thesecreditsareanotherwayforhomeowners toearnincomefromtheirsolarinstallations.Ontopofthat,thefederalgovernmentcontinuesto offerthe30%solarinvestmenttaxcredit,whichhelpstofurtherreducethecostsofgoingsolar.
