  1. 6 Essential Practices of Mindful Eating Doing every task while being distracted by mobile screens is a common addiction spread throughout the world. Distraction is the new normal. On the contrary, consciousness means a state of mind in which the person is completely aware of and responsive to one’s environment in the present moment. The mind is not preoccupied with other thoughts and is wholly focused on the task. It is also known as mindfulness, and as a practice, it is propagated by Buddhism. Conscious eating is the practice of applying mindfulness while consuming food. It entails being completely involved in the act of eating, utilizing all the senses. This kind of experience reduces the chances of binge-eating, over-eating, or eating foods packed with empty calories and devoid of nutrients. It has been observed that fast food or food which comes in handy and in a packet is packed with empty calories and saturated fats. It lacks nutrients like proteins, fiber, minerals, and vitamins. These are processed foods. On the other hand, natural food products are packed with ample amounts of nutrients essential for the healthy and disease-free growth and development of the body. Eating mindfully also involves being conscious of the food articles being consumed. It is the practice of consciously being aware of the nutrients present in the food being consumed and eating healthier alternatives accordingly. Benefits of Conscious Eating  A healthier relationship with one’s food- Habits like ’emotional eating’ when sad or depressed will be resolved by conscious eating. One can gain control over their eating habits.  Better nutrient absorption- Slowly chewing the organic food and eating without distractions enables better nutrient absorption in the body, benefitting all the cells and organs.  Weight Loss- Studies have shown that conscious eating makes you eat less and feel full earlier than usual. In this way, one will not stuff themselves with unnecessary food and eat only the proportion of food needed by the body. Eating gluten-free quinoa when the hunger sensation rises is a good habit as it prevents you from overeating after prolonged suppressed hunger.  Less Stress- Eating slowly reduces the cortisol (stress hormone). This can help weight loss, mood, anxiety, concentration, PMS, memory, and sleep.

  2. Improved food choices- The person becomes aware of the response or change generated in the body in response to certain types of food. This motivates healthier food choices, eating nutrient-rich food like high protein food options. Healthy food options: Since childhood, kids are taught about a balanced diet, one laden with all the macro and micronutrients needed by the body. But what are these nutrients, and where to gain them from? Check out Amala Earth, an online eco-friendly platform that aims to nourish healthy bodies along with nurturing a healthy environment. Here are some of the food options which can be included in mindful eating to nourish the body in a wholesome manner. These are six essentials of conscious eating:-  Protein-packed foods- Protein is an important macronutrient required for the growth, development, and damage repair of the body. (Gym enthusiasts will relate to the importance of this nutrient). Protein builds the resilience of the body and acts as an immunity booster (recently realised as an essential requirement post-pandemic). The easy-to-eat protein-rich foods available online are peanut butter, protein bars, quinoa, pumpkin seeds, muesli, and many more.  Healthy Fats- Transfats or unsaturated fats are considered to be unhealthy and are the main culprits behind cholesterol and cardiac disorders. However, some fats, when included in the diet in a regulated manner, boost bone health and immunity. The myth about ghee adding to body weight was recently busted. Desi Ghee from Two brothers is a protein-rich, immunity- boosting, and stress-relieving superfood.  Gluten-free foods- Gluten is a family of proteins found in grains like wheat, barley, rye, etc. Many people experience gluten sensitivity or intolerance, the symptoms of which are bloating, indigestion, constipation, and other celiac diseases. Thankfully, the market is now flooded with various gluten-free options like Nutty Yogi’s Amarnath flour, ghee, chips, peanut butter, Organic India’s black rice, yoga bar oats, etc.  Healthy Munchies- It is difficult to resist snacking in between meals, at the theatre, or on a long drive. It is healthier to replace packaged junk with healthier snacks available online at Amala Earth. These include quinoa chips, ragi chips, gluten-free dark chocolate, etc. Enjoy snacking guilt-free.  For the environmentalist- The vegan lifestyle is gaining ground and becoming a popular lifestyle choice, especially among environmentally conscious people. Many vegan food options are available online, like hemp protein powder, sugar-free coffee, peanut butter, organic coconut oil, etc. Protect the environment without compromising the health of your body. In a healthy body resides a healthy mind which can work towards conserving the planet responsibly.  Diabetes-friendly- India is the diabetes capital of the world. Unhealthy eating habits and lifestyles, stressful living conditions, and genetics make Indians more prone to contracting diabetes. In these situations, it basically becomes difficult to quieten the sweet-craving child within oneself. Worry not, as there are plenty of sugar-free food options available online to satiate the sweet tooth, like almond date balls, sugar-free energy bars, healthy and crispy jowar snacks, etc.

  3. It is difficult to make lifestyle changes that are good for our bodies. An addiction to habits keeps us from leaving our comfort zones. On the other hand, it may not be easy to bear the expenses incurred. Due to leading an unhealthy lifestyle, such as going to the hospital or buying medicine. The better option is to eat a yoga bar muesli, which is sustainable and works wonders for your health. The saying ‘you are what you eat’ is true because our food gets digested into our body cells, organs, blood, and everything that makes up our physical and physiological bodies. Unmistakably, a healthy body reflects a healthy mind, so conclusively, everything draws down to the food we consume. The idea of conscious eating allows you to make informed choices and use your food to heal you. You cannot afford to miss out on Amala Earth’s wide range of mindful eating.
