  2. Objectives • To learn more about what is koalas. • To learn how to present koalas on Max Show.

In this project,Shi Qi and Jun Yi will make use of the following topics to touch on koalas • What is a koala? • What is koala's habitat? • What is koala’s diet? • What is koala’s physiology? • How do koala breed? • How do the young survive? • How do koalas communicate? • More information about koalas.

  4. What is a koala? • Koala are marsupials ,which means their youngs are born from a pouch. • Adult koalas is 9 kg while a Joey, their baby is about 1 gram. • Female are 2 years of age while male at their 3-4 years old.

  5. Koala’s habitat • Koalas live in socialites, so that they could contact with the other koala. • They need suitable eucalypt forest to support a healthy and expansion by maturing young koalas. • Members of koala maintain their own home range area.

  6. Koala’s Diet. • Koala need a lot of energy to digest their toxic ,fiborous,low nutrition diet and sleeping 18-20 hours a day is the best way to conserve their energy. • Joey must feed on" pap" because it contain micro-organisms from her intestine to be able to digest the gum leaf. • Koala's diet is tree gum leaf and eucalypts leaf.

  7. How do koalas care for their young. • Young koalas suck its mother’s milk immediately when it is born. • When young koalas can eat eucalypt leaf ,it will ride its mother’s back to eat leaves.

  8. How do koalas breed? • Koalas breeds from August to Febuary. • Females starts breeding at about three or four years of age. • They usually produce only one offspring each year.

  9. How do the young survive? • At 22 weeks, its eyes would open and it will peep out of the pouch, It would start to feed on “pap” which is waste substance of the mother. • Young koalas remain in the in the pouch until the next Joey is born. • When young koalas are 12 months old, they have to leave the mother’s pouch.

  10. How koalas communicate • Mother and baby communicate by making soft clicking,sqeaking sound, gentle humming or murmuring sound to signal displeasure or annoyance. • Male koalas bellow more frequently when it is during August-Febuary when it is their breeding season.

  11. More information about koalas • Male koalas are larger than female and southern koalas, southern koalas are 30% larger than northern koalas . • Koala's scientific name is “phascolarctos cinereus”,meaning, “ash grey pouched bear”.

  12. Mathematic slide. • Adult koalas are 9kg. • Baby koalas are 1gram when they are 1 gram. • 9000g-1g=8999g 9kg 1g

  13. Conclusion • We had learn a lot about koalas • What have you learnt? • We feel that humans should not destroy the forest to ensure that Koalas will not extinct.
