  1. How Do You File for Divorce in Dubai? A marriage is supposed to last forever, but in reality, things sometimesmay not work out for every couple. When this happens, both parties may either choose to go for counselling to fix the matter and stay together, or file for a divorce to live apart. The latter is a long and arduous process that requires legal guidance. Different methods for divorce in Dubai The divorce laws in Dubai that apply to you depend on whether you’re a Muslim or not. Islamic marriages are bound by Sharia law, and couples who choose to end things may go through either revocable or irrevocable divorce. On the other hand, non-muslimcouples can divorce by application to the court, also known as separation by way of a judgment. This process is handled by Dubai’s Family Guidance Committee. The seven valid reasons for a divorce Before you can file for divorce in Dubai, it’s essential that you meet at least one of the valid grounds according to Dubai law. Husbands are entitled to divorce without meeting any of the reasons; meanwhile, wives must either be given the right by the husband or state a valid reason. These grounds include defects and deceit, non-payment of current dowry, harm and disputes, lack of financial support, the absence of one party, jail sentence, and desertion. A short checklist before filing for divorce in Dubai Once you have a valid reason for divorce, it’s time to prepare for the process. First, you need to find a qualified family lawyer to guide you throughout the procedure. This way, you don’t have to worry about missing any necessary documents or stating the wrong grounds. Next, you must prepare documents such as your marriage certificate and copies of your IDs (including those of your children). It’s also best to have witnesses who can support your claim, especially if you want to expedite the process. Lastly, always make sure to convey the full truth to your lawyer. This is to ensure that your lawyer can give you proper advice and help you get the best outcome.
