  2. Introduction Whenweareyoung, webegintodeveloparangeof skillsthatwewillthencarrywithusintoadulthood. Thisincludesskillsinareassuchasproblem- solving,relationship-building,andcommunication. However,somechildrenwithautismfindit harder thanotherstocommunicatewiththeirpeersand lovedones.Thiscouldbeduetothefactthatthey findcommunicationingeneraldifficultor because theyarenon-verbal.

Practicenon-verbalcommunication It’simportanttorememberthatnotallformsof communicationinvolvespeakingaloud.For example,you couldcommunicatewithyourchildthroughgestures,eye contact,andfacialexpressions. Incorporatingnon-verbalcommunicationintoyourdaily life can,therefore,helpyourchildwithautismdevelopthewayin whichtheycommunicateandensuretheyarenotleftoutof theconversation.Furthermore,studiessuggestthatchildren (oradults)whomaybenon-verbalthrivewhenusingsign languageasa formofcommunication.

Talkabouttheirhobbiesand interests Sometimes,childrenwithautismorrelateddisorders willhavespecialinterestsorhobbiestheyare particularlypassionateabout.Therefore,actively encouragingconversationonthesetopicsisagreat waytoencouragethemtoparticipatein the conversation.Besuretoaskthemplentyofquestions, asthisallowsthemtosharetheirknowledgewithyou more thoroughly
