  21. WHY PRAY? Prayer 101 – Back to the Basics.

  22. It is Commanded • Colossians 4:2 - Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving; • 1 Thes. 5:16-18 - Rejoice evermore, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus • Phil. 4:6 - Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. • Luke 18:1 - And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; • Psalm 50:14,15 - Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: 15   And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

  23. It is Expected • Matthew 6:5-9 • 5 And whenthou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: • 6 But when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, • 7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: • 9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. • “As it is the business of tailors to make clothes & of cobblers to mend shoes, so it is the business of Christians to pray.” ~ Martin Luther

  24. It is Encouraged with Promises • Luke 11:1-10 - 9   And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened • James 5:13-16 “Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick

  25. It is Needed • Ephesians 6:10-14 • 10   Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11   Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12   For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.13   Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14   Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

  26. It is Needed • Ephesians 6:15-19 • 15   And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16   Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17   And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:18   Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;19   And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

  27. It is Effective and Important • Revelation 8:3-5    And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. 4   And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand. • Your prayers are so important that God saves EVERY ONE OF THEM!

  28. That We Should Prosper in Communion • Psalm 27 – 8   When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek. 10   When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up. Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: • Hebrews 4:14   Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 16   Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. • John 15:7 -  If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
