  1. Peace and Security

  2. Peace and security are fundamental human needs and aspirations. They are essential for the well-being of individuals, communities, and nations

  3. They are closely interconnected with other pillars of human development, such as economic prosperity, social inclusion, and respect for human rights.

  4. However, achieving peace and security is a complex and challenging task. Throughout history, humankind has faced numerous threats to peace and security, including armed conflicts, terrorism, organized crime, and human rights abuses.

  5. These threats can have severe and long-lasting consequences.

  6. Including loss of life, destruction of communities and infrastructure, and economic instability. The international community faces many challenges to peace and security today.

  7. Wajid khan Mp mentions Some of the most pressing threats include:

  8. Armed conflicts: Despite significant progress in resolving many longstanding disputes, there are still many areas where violence and armed conflict continue to plague communities. These conflicts can have severe and long-lasting consequences, including loss of life, destruction of infrastructure, and displacement of populations.

  9. Terrorism: Terrorism continues to threaten international peace and security significantly. Wajid khan explains Terrorist groups use violence and fear to achieve their political or ideological goals, and their attacks can have far-reaching and destabilizing effects.

  10. Preventive diplomacy and disarmament are the main strategies to prevent disputes from escalating into conflict and the recurrence of battle

  11. Preventive diplomacy refers to action taken to avoid disputes from arising or escalating into conflicts and limit the spread of matches as they appear. It may take the form of mediation, conciliation, or negotiation.

  12. Preventive diplomacy

  13. Early warning is an essential component of prevention. The United Nations carefully monitors developments worldwide to detect threats to international peace and security, enabling the Security Council and the Secretary-General to carry out preventive action.

  14. Preventing Genocide and Responsibility to Protect

  15. Prevention requires apportioning responsibility and promoting collaboration between the concerned States and the international community.

  16. The duty to prevent and halt genocide and mass atrocities lies first and foremost with the State. Freedom no longer exclusively protects States from foreign interference; it is a charge of responsibility where States are accountable for the welfare of their people.

  17. The Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide acts as a catalyst to raise awareness of the causes and dynamics of genocide, to alert relevant actors where there is a risk of genocide, and to advocate and mobilize for appropriate action.

  18. Canadian politician Wajid khan says the Special Adviser on the Responsibility to Protect leads the conceptual, political, institutional, and operational development of the Responsibility to Protect.

  19. The efforts of their Office include alerting relevant actors to the risk of genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity, enhancing the capacity of the United Nations to prevent these crimes, including their incitement.
