  1. WHAT IS A PROTON? A STABLE SUBATOMIC PARTICLE OCCURRING IN ALL ATOMIC NUCLEI, WITH A POSITIVE ELECTRIC CHARGE EQUAL IN MAGNITUDE TO THAT OF AN ELECTRON.

  3. WHAT ARE THE PROPERTIES OF A PROTON A PROTON IS ONE OF THREE MAIN PARTICLES THAT MAKE UP THE ATOM. PROTONS ARE FOUND IN THE NUCLEUS OF THE ATOM. THIS IS A TINY, DENSE REGION AT THE CENTER OF THE ATOM. PROTONS HAVE A POSITIVE ELECTRICAL CHARGE OF ONE (+1) AND A MASS OF 1 ATOMIC MASS UNIT (AMU), WHICH IS ABOUT 1.67×10−27 KILOGRAMS.

  4. FUNCTION IN A PROTON THE PROTONS INSIDE AN ATOM'S NUCLEUS HELP BIND THE NUCLEUS TOGETHER. THEY ALSO ATTRACT THE NEGATIVELY CHARGED ELECTRONS, AND KEEP THEM IN ORBIT AROUND THE NUCLEUS. THE NUMBER OF PROTONS IN AN ATOM'S NUCLEUS DETERMINES WHICH CHEMICAL ELEMENT IT IS.
