  1. Everything You Need to Know About E-Bikes in Detail

  2. Buying an e-bike can take a big chunk out of your budget, so you'll want to make sure you're making the right decision when it comes to buying an e-bike. That's why we've put together a guide to what you need to know before buying an e-bike.

  3. 1. What are you going to use an e-bike for? • E-bikes or electric scooter come in many different styles and have many different uses. Think about why you want or need an e-bike. You don't want to buy an electric bike with 180mm full suspension if all you need is a little extra mobility for shopping. Conversely, you won't want a hybrid if you're going to ride big trails. • The simple rule is to tailor your bike to most of your rides and not what you'd like to do or do very rarely.

  4. 2. You get what you pay for. • With electric scooters, you really get what you pay for. The more you pay, the better the battery life. The more powerful the motor, the better it will be when it starts going uphill. The more you pay, the more specs you get.

  5. 3. How much power? • The question everyone will ask when looking at a new e-scooter is: "How much power does that bike have?". The best thing to do is to buy a bike with as much power as you can afford. It is good to know that 250 watts is the maximum power allowed in India. 250 watts is enough to reach a cruising speed of 25-40 kilometers per hour, the maximum speed allowed for electric scooter in Chennai.

  6. 4. What type of motor? • You can have the motor on the hubs or as part of the bottom bracket, known as a mid-drive motor. Both systems have their advantages and disadvantages. The advantages of hub motors are that they have been around for a long time and are cheap and reliable. You can find them mounted on either the front or rear wheel. The rear wheel is usually more beneficial, as it is easier for the bike to support the weight of the motor there. • Mid-drive motors are located in the bottom bracket area of the bike, which makes the motor closer to the bike's center of gravity and helps the electric bike feel more stable. By being close to the bottom bracket and reacting to pedaling torque, center-drive motors are more efficient than hub motors. Center-drive motors also make climbing easier. Hub motors merely move the wheel forward, but center-drive motors drive the chain and, through that action, provide more power. Your local hills will now seem smaller than ever.

  7. 5. What is a watt-hour? • The life of a battery is expressed in watt-hours. For many of us, the idea of watt-hours is an abstract concept. It's easiest to think that what you want is the highest number possible for your budget. • There is a little rule of thumb about watt-hours and e-bike distance. The idea is to take the watt-hours and divide by 15. The number you get is approximately the distance traveled on the e-bike. The number you get is approximately the mileage you can expect from your battery. Like all rules, it's made to be broken, but it gives you a good idea of the size you can buy.
