  2. Varicose Veins • Any vein might become varicose. Varicose veins is a very common problem where veins close to your skin are swollen and twisted. • The more standing and walking upright increases the pressure in the veins of your lower body and it damaged veins in your legs. • Varicose veins are a common condition caused by damaged vein walls and valves. • Varicose veins may form whenever blood pressure increases inside your veins.

  3. Symptoms And Signs Varicose veins may not cause any pain. Below are some signs and symptoms you may have during varicose veins: • Veins that are dark purple or blue in color • Veins that appear twisted and bulging • Burning, throbbing pain in the legs after standing for prolonged period • Skin discoloration around a varicose vein • Ulcer formation and bleeding • Swelling and heavy feelings in the legs • Worsened pain after sitting or standing for a long time • Itching around one or more of your veins

  4. Causes Of Varicose Veins Weak or damaged valves could lead to varicose veins. Some condition that puts excessive pressure on the legs or abdomen can lead to varicose veins. The most common conditions which inducers pressure are: • Pregnancy • Obesity • Standing for long periods • Chronic constipation • Tumors • A previous leg injury • Genetic Problems

  5. Diagnosis For varicose veins • To diagnose varicose veins, you may need an ultrasound test to see if the valves in your veins are functioning normally or if there's any evidence of a blood clot. • In this noninvasive test, a technician runs a small hand-held device (transducer), about the size of a bar of soap, against your skin over the area of your body being examined. • The transducer transmits images of the veins in your legs to a monitor, so a technician and your doctor can see them. • Your doctor may also ask you to describe any pain and aching in your legs.

  6. Varicose Veins Treatment The goals of varicose vein treatment are to reduce symptoms and prevent complications. Home treatment is typically the first approach. You can do below things to ease your symptoms: • Wear compression stockings. • Prop up (elevate) your legs. • Avoid long periods of sitting or standing. • Get plenty of exercise. There are some procedures that can treat varicose veins and keep the varicose veins from getting worse. • Laser treatment. • Ligation and stripping. • Phlebectomy. • Radiofrequency treatment. • Sclerotherapy. • Endoscopic vein surgery.

  7. Risk factors Here are a few factors that increases your risk of developing varicose veins: • Age - Aging causes wear and tear on the valves in your veins that help regulate blood flow. • Sex - Hormonal changes before your period or during pregnancy or menopause might be a factor because female hormones tend to relax vein walls. Hormone treatments, such as birth control pills, might increase your risk of varicose veins. • Pregnancy - During pregnancy, the volume of blood in your body increases. This change supports the growing fetus, but also can produce an unfortunate side effect — enlarged veins in your legs. • Family history - If other family members had varicose veins, there's a greater chance you will too. • Obesity - Being overweight puts added pressure on your veins. • Standing or sitting for long periods of time - Your blood doesn't flow as well if you're in the same position for long periods.
