  4. Societies that played a huge role . . . Greeks Romans • Golden age: • art • literature • reason/philosophy • science/math • government – direct democracy • Created a republic • innocent until proven guilty • evidence in trial

  5. Changes during the Middle Ages Feudalism Crusades Manor life Roman Catholic Church • Fight between Christians & Muslims to control the Holy Land • increased trade • developed tools for navigation
