  5. ANCILLARIES Catchment Split into Sub-Areas

  6. Control - Principles • Split catchment into sub-areas where flooding locations are known and understood • Each sub-area to have: • Primary point of relief sufficient to manage flood risks • Secondary point of relief for when operation of primary point is impaired • Co-ordinate points of relief in the event that rising sewer levels need a strategic / catchment wide response

  8. Control Algorithm

  9. Control – Overall Aims • To manage the transport capacity and to ensure that flows are managed as necessary, stored within the Catchment or split under extreme storms • To maximise the use of the storage (previously tidal) before spilling • To eliminate any risk of flooding in 1 in 5 year event • To manage the risks of flooding up to 1 in 30 year event • To provide a risk management strategy for failures within the system

  10. Manage flood risks for Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water Remove stormwater from system at strategic locations Monitor, monitor and monitor system performance Improve system serviceability / longevity Dialogue between Capital and Operations staff Approval of Environment Agency Integrated Catchment Plan
