Snow Committee • What we do • Run the contractor • Try to be good stewards of our money • Communicate about snow • Listen to complaints and try to inform the community about issues • What we don’t do • Collect dues • Move cars • Repair electric lines • Fuss at VDOT • Clean up dog poop • Find lost children • Though we have opinions on all these

Let us review • We started doing this last year • Steve and Ed were “appointed” to the committee by Dave…right before he left • Last year we had a bit of snow • The community was strong in supporting the plowing effort • This year there was a lot less snow • Meaning few complaints, and few problems, from your perspective • The contractor did a good job, best we can tell • But he did too good a job, and there lies the problem

The issues • VDOT now has a plow assigned to the neighborhoods • In addition there are a lot of gray and unknown plows running around doing stuff • This may be sufficient, but we can’t tell because WE CAN’T GET THE CONTRACTOR TO STOP PLOWING • Our contract specifies plowing on 2” or greater or the contractors discretion • The contractor plowed at 1”, and put down de-icer almost all the time. • This costs money, we have refused to pay the last bill

Possible COAs • Stop plowing and let VDOT do it • We could always start up again, but there would be a lag • Set a minimum threshold for plowing of 4-5” and enforce it • We would write a new contract that was very clear on this • It would mean that if something went wrong, we’d need another contract • And you’d have to live with VDOT for <4” • Continue with the existing scheme, but enforce the 2” rule • What we cannot do is make an “audible” due to liability concerns • Continue to plow on even a flake of snow no matter what • Its your money! We don’t mind!

Other Initiatives • We have had good luck with online communications • Gmail account: cwcasnow@gmail.com • Twitter account: http://www.twitter.com/cwcasnow • Google maps: drain markers and routes • Set up a blog http://cwcasnow.posterous.com/ • But there wasn’t really much to blog about • It was a dull year compared to last year! • Reminders: • Don’t park your cars on the street during snow events (we know who you are all you cul-de-sac people) • Cars have been damaged! • Report problems through the gmail account, so we have a record of it • Don’t pull up my stakes that mark the storm drains, they cost money and you get the crappy stakes next year! • Check the twitter account first, I’m usually up on it when there is a major snow event • The blog is for longer format information

CWCA Bi-Annual Meeting • Security Review • Cabell Fooshe • Very little activity for concern. • Vandalism of signs on Laburnum at the beginning of summer coincided once college students returned from being away and when Fairfax County Schools dismissed for the summer. • Teen drivers, Household Help and employees are commonly driving over the posted speed limit.

25. CWCA Bi-Annual Meeting Dominion Power • Continue Circuit Reconditioning • Currently in design phase and will begin in a couple of months. Will take 6 – 12 months to complete. • Load Transfer Project • Will be done in conjunction with Circuit Reconditioning. • Fuse Installation Project has already been completed.

26. CWCA Bi-Annual Meeting The combination of both projects will improve service reliability. They will strengthen main feeder infrastructure and place Chesterbrook Woods on a different, more reliable circuit.
