  1. how does the U-PASS promote environmental wellness? • In 2009, fewer car trips were made to campus than in any other year since 1983 despite a 28 percent increase in the campus population • Because the U-PASS decreases the amount of car trips taken, the average UW Seattle commuter emits 30 percent less carbon than the average commuter in our region • That 7,840 fewer metric tons of CO2 each year • Public transportation in the U.S uses approximately half the fuel required by cars • A single person, 20-mile round trip by car can be replaced using public transportation and result in a net CO2 emissions reduction of 4,800 lbs/year – and that doesn’t even count the emissions reduced because of decreased congestion!

  2. If you haven’t already, be sure to pick up your new HuskyCard! You can’t use your U-PASS without it OLD… NEW!

  3. how can U-USE your U-PASS? • Full fare coverage on Metro, Community, Pierce, Kitsap, Everett and Sound Transit buses • Full fare coverage on the Sounder commuter train • Full fare coverage on LINK light rail • Full fare coverage on paratransit services provided by King County Metro ACCESS, Community Transit DART Paratransit, Kitsap Transit ACCESS, Pierce Transit Shuttle, and Everett ParaTransit • Discounted occasional (impromptu) carpooling • Free rides on the NightRide Shuttle • Discount on Zipcar car-sharing program • Discounts and special offers at many local businesses

  5. ACTIVATEyour new U-PASS!

  6. HOLE PUNCH FAIL! Punching a hole in or otherwise damaging your HuskyCard will destroy the chip inside which carries your U-PASS. It’s a rookie mistake, don’t fall for it! a better option, you can buy this at the bookstore or HuskyCard office ??? LOST CARD? You’ll need to shell out $20 for a new card at the HuskyCard office in Odegaard. FUN FACT: there is no longer a U-PASS replacement fee!

  7. Need a bus schedule? If you can, download the OneBusAway application! Created by students at UW it gives you real-time arrival information for any Seattle stop. No smartphone? OneBusAway also utilizes text messaging. Text your bus stop number as “onebus #####” to 41411. You will receive a text response with a list of arrival information!

  8. Bike often? 8% of students commute to class by bike Need repairs? Tools? A lock? Check out the ASUW Bike Shop in Condon Hall Need a bike light? Helmet? Check out resources at Hall Health Register your bicycle with UWPD and engrave it with identifying markings, in case it ends up being found somewhere it shouldn’t be. Always use a U-LOCK. Almost all bike thefts on campus are cable locks. If you still want a flexible lock, make sure your cable lock is at least 3/8” in diameter.

  9. be a COMMUTE CHAMPION Do you know someone who has a commute so eco-friendly that it compels you to shower them with baby kittens and hugs? NOMINATE THEM for the Commuter Services COMMUTE CHAMPION AWARD! Winners receive two $50 giftcards, one to the U-Bookstore and another to REI! Also, mad street cred.
