    2. Update since last meeting National Knowledge Network South Asia Disaster Knowledge Network(SADKN) 30 April, 2012 2

National Knowledge Network To bring together all the stakeholders in Science, Technology, Higher Education, Research & Development, and Governance with speeds of the order of 10s of Gbps coupled with extremely low latencies. To interconnect all institutions engaged in research, higher education and scientific development in the country, over a period of time 30 April, 2012 3

    5. Current Status 15 PoPs set up across the country 57 Institutions of Higher Learning Virtual Class Rooms in 6 IITs Inaugurated by the Honble President of India on 9th April09 30 April, 2012 5

    6. SADKN A virtual network of networks, known as South Asian Disaster Knowledge Network (SADKN) which would involve organization and institutions within and outside the governments of the Member countries of the SAARC, engaged in the design, creation, testing, dissemination and application of different aspects of knowledge on disaster management. This network shall provide a common platform to exchange, share and acquire knowledge and experience through web portal 30 April, 2012 6

    8. SADKN Implemented by SAARC Disaster Management Centre(SDMC), New Delhi Set-up an expert committee to suggest Technical and Operational Guidelines for implementation of SADKN. I was one of the committee member. It was suggested that they can use TEIN3 for connecting SAARC countries 30 April, 2012 8
