  3. assessment: 50% (final writing pieces, projects, quizzes, tests, presentations, etc.) reflection: 40% (classwork, journals, etc.) homework/participation: 10% GRADING

  4. we write everyday during workshop Personal narrative unit Finishing up first writing piece Daily mini-lessons & strategies Taking writing to higher level New concepts Writing notebook WRITERS’WORKSHOP

  5. Conferencing allows for differentiation through the setting of individualized goals Rough drafts are written with teacher/student conferences Revisions are made through peer and teacher suggestions CONFERENCING

  6. Regular one-on-one or small group meetings to check for: Progress Difficulties/struggles Comprehension Implementation of strategies CONFERENCING

  7. Personal narrative Explanatory essays Poetry Persuasive essay 5 paragraph essay njask prep Journal entries Fiction writing Research paper – final project WRITING UNITS

  8. We are progressing through our 1st unit Your child will publish their own book using the Nationwide Learning Student Tales program! This will bring life to their writing and become a family keepsake! PERSONAL NARRATIVE

  10. Class discussions daily Theory & evidence Engagement – participation presentations Speaking & dress, Poise, Creativity SPEAKING & LISTENING

  11. Vocabulary units will occur throughout the year Students will receive a new word everyday and use it in daily writing practice Various vocabulary assessments (write a story using words, fill in the blanks, true/false, etc.) VOCABULARY

  12. Throughout our writing units, we will work on… Run on sentences/sentence fragments Strengthening sentences Commas Punctuating dialogue Quotations Possessives/plurals Other common errors in writing GRAMMAR

  13. Most writing will be done in class, but occasionally students will have hw Students are expected to complete all hw on time Late work will receive partial credit, and will not be accepted more than 1 day late Agenda books are key – please check the agenda book to make sure hw is being copied down regularly HOMEWORK

  14. Students are encouraged to come to extra help for ANY reason I am available for extra help every morning I am available for afternoon help every Tuesday & Thursday Students must have a pass signed by me to attend extra help EXTRA HELP

  15. Our class website is updated weekly Please check the website regularly Homework and class information is posted weekly Words of the week  extra credit WEBSITE
