  2. EarlyLife • Born on April 22,1451. • Birth place Madrigal de las atlas Torres. • She was often referred to as “ La Catalica” ( the catholic) a title given by her pope. • Her religion was a roman catholic. • Her race/ Ethnicity was white from Spain.

  3. Early life Facts • Her occupation was royalty. • She was the daughter of John II. • Her father died when she was three years old. • Her brother became Kong Henry IV. • When the nobles approched Isabella at the age. of 17 to become queen she refused asaying that. she would never rule while her brother was alive.

  4. Disagreements between brother and sister • To give peace to the nobles he declared that Isabella would become queen when he was to die even though he had a daughter. • Soon she and her brother had many disagreements on who she was to marry. • He had wanted her to marry Don Calos, Prince of viana heir of kingdom of Navarro.

  5. Isabella rebels against her brother • Queen Isabella had made up her mind on marrying Ferdinand. • Isabella was threatened and taken to the dungeon by her brother. • But then made a promise not to throw her in the dungeon if she waited till he got back from Andalusia.

  6. The search for Ferdinand • Shortly after her brother left she made plans to marry Ferdinand. • The only problem was she didn’t know were he was • He was soon found in a island called Sicily which is found at the bottom of Italy • They married in 1469 in Juan de Vivero.

War Between Family • As soon as King Henry IV died Isabella was declared queen but so was king henrys' daughter who was arranged to marry King Alfonso V of Portugal. • Castile and Aragon went to war with Portugal for about five years long but ended in a treaty with Joan leaving the throne making Isabella queen of Spain

  8. To much power • Isabella thought that the nobles had to much power • She created an organization called "Santa Hermandad" (Holy Brotherhood) a military force • For protection against the nobles

The Bind between two kingdoms • During that time Ferdinand was named king of Aragon • Then Isabella should her wonderful abilities by saying she and her husband shall rule the kingdoms equally. • She made a Moto saying “tanto monta ,monta tanto” “As much as the one is worth so much is the other - Isabella as Ferdinand.”

  10. Peace Organization • They took land form nobles and destroyed some castle that were thought to be a menace to public peace. • They stopped coin making for business because only one type of coin would be used • The Pope Sixtus IV established the Spanish inquisition in1478

  11. Both Isabella and her husband were devoted Catholics • So being that they wanted everyone to be Catholics as well • They would give people the options to convert • This devotion led them very far

  12. The inquisition lasted up until 1808 • It was a terrible time for Spain • You had to convert to catholic or die • But that was not in of for the chief of inquisition • They thought Jews were a menace to the kingdom and them

  13. When they finally got control of Granada on January I 1492 they let them (moors) do their religious practices • They gave Columbus money three ships and 87 men • The ships names were the Nina the piñata and the Santa Maria

  14. Columbus made Isabella richer by finding steel weapons and more • Spain became a peace full place because of the way Isabella treated other with the exception of Jews • She had five children • Maria, Isabella, john, Joan, and Catherine

  15. Isabella died on November 26, 1504 • Her husband died in January 23 1516 • 12 years after Isabella died in medina Del campo.
