Introduction

Question 1

Why is it more about change management that software implementation?

Question 1

The old way

  • PLM is the key factor in its successful process redesign.

  • Santa Cruz used to apply computer-aided-design (CAD) software.

    • They spent about 7 months to develop a new design

    • if the design failed, whole company would restart the design,

    • Starting over is the only solution

    • This could waste money and time.

The Old Way

The new plm system

  • The design team found a PLM system

    • It helped them analyze and model capabilities in a much more robust manner.

  • The PLM systems are able to use some professional software

    • to track the whole design process.

    • Allowing the designer to make a change and adaption to the design model.

The New PLM System

The difference

  • In the CAD period

    • the manufacture always needed 28 months to produce a bike

  • but in the PLM period

    • it just needs 12 to 14 months.

  • Time is money!

The Difference

Question 3

Why is it more about change management that software implementation?

Question 3

Change

  • From CAD:

    • Computer-Aided-Design Management software

  • To PLC:

    • Product Life Cycle Management software

Change

Motivation

  • VPP(Virtual Pivot Point) system failures

  • To find a way to go from design to prototype faster

Motivation

Before cad

  • 7 months to develop a new design

  • If design failed, need start over

  • 7 hours to run a simulation

  • 28 months from design to shipping

Before: CAD

After plm

  • tracks all variables

  • easier to make adjustment

  • run simulation in minutes

  • 12 to 14 months from design to shipping

After: PLM

Improvement

  • Save Time and finance

  • Less time: flexibility

Improvement
