  1. Group Production Portfolio Planning and Preparation

  2. There are six elements to the preproduction process: • Market Research • Film Treatment • 3 Column Script • Storyboard • Shot list/schedule • Pitch Proposal What planning?

  3. Your preproduction work needs to be in electronic format. • This means it needs to be in the form of a blog, updated regularly. • We will now set up a wordpress.com blog account for you all. Preproduction Format

  4. Decide on a specific target audience • Visit www.bbfc.co.uk and find the ratings certificate appropriate to your audience. • This needs to be up on the blog by Saturday 13th November Market Research & Target Audience

  5. Devise a survey for your target audience. • This survey should focus on genre preferences and content suggestion. • You need to administer the survey. • You need to write a one page document analysing the results of your survey. • The one page document and an example of your survey needs to be up on your blog by Thursday 18th November Market Research & Target Audience

  6. Find 4 or 5 music videos or other products that share generic features with your product. • Upload links to them onto the blog by Monday 22nd November. Genre Decisions

  7. A one page outline of the narrative or the concept. • This should be well structured, polished and carefully proofread. • The film treatment needs to be uploaded to the blog by Monday 29th November. Film Treatment

  8. The script is a blueprint of what action will take place on screen. • With a music video it is important that there is a plan so the visuals match the audio. • The three columns describe the length of a shot, the visuals and the audio. • The 3 column script must be up on the blog by Monday 13th December Script

  9. The storyboard is a way of communicating an idea for a scene more specifically. • There can only be one interpretation of a storyboard. • The storyboard has to be specific as to how a scene will look in the finished product. • The storyboard must be uploaded to the blog by Monday 13th December Storyboard

  10. Prior to your pitch proposal your shot list/shot schedule will be a rough plan. • Unlike the schedule for your previous production, this schedule will also include planned dates of production and estimated time needed on location. • Shot list/shot schedule must be uploaded to the blog by Friday 17th December Shot List/Shot Schedule

  11. The pitch proposal is a meeting between a film producer and a potential film-maker. • The objective of the film-maker is to get approval for funding to produce their product (greenlighting). • It is important to ‘WOW’ the producer with your idea, as they probably listen to 100s per week. • Being prepared beforehand is essential, as the producer may have questions that require answering. Pitch Proposal Presentation

  12. The other six elements of your preproduction work inform your pitch proposal. • You will compile your preproduction work into a booklet for the producer. • It is important that information is easy to understand and quick to access, as the producer see a lot of these things. • You will also need 2 storyboard stills in either electronic form (for the projector) or blown up to A3 size. • The ‘pitch’ itself will take 5-6 minutes, in which you will sell your potential product. • Due Date TBA Pitch Proposal Presentation contd.
