  2. Center for Learning and Student Success Should I join a Learning Community? Are you wondering how long it will take you to develop friendships with your new classmates at FAU? Do you want to meet people who share your major or areas of interest? YES! Are you looking for a college experience filled with involvement, activity, support, connections and fun? Do you want to be a successful college student?

  4. FAU has two types of Learning Communities… 1 Living-Learning Communities (LLCs) LLC applications are available now for Fall 2009-Spring 2010! Check out our Web site! • LLCs link common first semester courses with a common interest or theme • Students live together on a common floor in Heritage Park Towers! • Students have a shared course schedule with students in the same LLC • Develop great connections with University Faculty and Staff • For students who intend to live the Boca Raton Campus only! Students have great study group opportunities! http://www.fau.edu/LearningCommunity Get the small classroom feel with a large University experience! Students have great schedules!! Full academic-year commitment!

  5. FAU has two types of Learning Communities… 2 Freshman Learning Communities (FLCs) FLC applications are available in mid-Spring 2009! Check out our Web site! • Links common first semester courses with a common interest or theme • Open to commuter and residential students • Students have a shared course schedule with students in the same FLC • Develop great connections with University Faculty and Staff Students enroll in 12-14 credits from the General Education Curriculum! http://www.fau.edu/LearningCommunity Students have great study group opportunities! Students have great schedules!! FLCs are a one-semester commitment!

Students who have participated in Learning Communities: Are 5% more likely to return to FAU for their second year than non-learning community students 600 or 25% of all freshman will enroll in a Learning Community? Complete more credits than non LC students in the first semester Over 1800 students have participated in LCs at FAU! Say they make friends more easily and are more satisfied with their first-year in college!

  7. Get Support! From a Learning Community Liaison (LCL)! LCLs are alumni of one of FAU’s past Learning Communities! Provide mentorship and peer support to students enrolled in a Learning Community! Plan social and academic activities for students enrolled in a Learning Community!
