  2. Autobiographical Narratives Get in home group. Pass your narrative to the person on your right. Read the narrative you received. Keep passing them around until everyone has read each one. Discuss and be ready to share two aha’s you got from reading these stories

  3. Domains of Classroom Management • Covenant • Content • Conduct

  4. Kinds of Control to Consider • Preventive strategies: “I knew you might think that, so instead let’s…”

  5. Supportive or maintenance strategies “Let’s remember what we decided…”

  6. Corrective strategies “You made a choice to do that - the consequence is…”

  7. Primary Base of Power Attractive Power: You might look nice or tell a good joke but that’s not what it’s all about…. I gotta trust you and you gotta trust me - then we’ve got mutual respect happening.

  8. Primary Base of Power Legitimate power: Students respect teacher as authority, but not just because s/he has a credential!!

  9. Primary Base of Power Expert Power • Students see teachers as knowing their stuff! • Competent in curriculum content and pedagogy

  10. Secondary Bases of Power When the first three are not enough: • Reward power (extrinsic rewards) • Coercive power (punishment consequences)
