  1. Journey to the center of the body! With Taylor Hoyt and Kyle Castner.

  2. How it started….. Kyle and I visited the city of Danville, and went to our uncle’s Phineas and Ferb’s house. When we got there, we were very hungry, so Phineas made Kyle, Ferb, Candace, and I a grilled cheese sandwich. While he was making it, he dropped his mom’s ring in the cheese, and Candace accidently swallowed it. Kyle and I decided to make a shrink submarine and go inside and get the ring.

  3. Our adventure through the mouth. We started out by shrinking down to a very small size. We entered the body through the mouth, while Candace was finishing the grilled cheese sandwich. We traveled through the mouth and down the esophagus into the stomach. Job – The mouth chews and swallows food that can be digested. It goes down the esophagus and into the stomach. Enzymes – Salivary amylase, Bicarbonate ions, and Mucins.

  4. Into the stomach. • We fell down into the stomach, through the esophageal sphincter and watched as the stomach made acids to digest the food. We found the ring and shrunk it down to a small size and collected it. The food, including us, then digested and went through the pyloric sphincter and into the small intestine. • Job – The stomach breaks down food into smaller pieces and forms a liquid mixture called chyme. • Enzymes – Pepsin. The effect it has food is that it breaks down proteins into large peptides.

  5. Down through the Pancreas! • When we got to the Pancreas, it was in the process of breaking down the proteins from the grilled cheese sandwich. We traveled through and watched as the pancreas did its job. • Job – Breaks down proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. It also produces chemicals that neutralize stomach acids. It also makes insulin. • Enzymes – Trypsin, Lipase, and Amylase.

  6. Into the Gallbladder. • When we left the Pancreas, we entered the Gallbladder. The Gallbladder was hard at work, storing bile and yellowish fluids. We traveled trough and saw the small intestine coming up. • Job – The Gallbladder stores bile and yellow-green fluids that are used in the liver. It also gets rid of waste the body doesn’t need. • Enzymes – PROTEASE, AMYLASE, LIPASE, CELLULASE, LACTASE, INVERTASE, and MALT DISTASE.

  7. Through the Small Intestine. • As we left the Gallbladder, we entered the Small Intestine and watched as the grilled cheese was getting broken down even more. It took about 3 hours for the grilled cheese to break down all the way. • Job – The small intestine breaks down the food mixture so your body can absorb all the nutrients it needs from food. • Enzymes – Alkaline, acidic liquid, bile, maltase, lactase, and sucrase. They all help to neutralize the acid needed in the small intestine.

  8. Into the Large Intestine! • When we exited the small intestine, we entered the large intestine. We floated through and watched as the large intestine got rid of wastes and unwanted water. • Job – The Large Intestine absorbs water and salts from undigested food, and to get rid of any wastes. • Enzymes – The large intestine does not have enzymes.

  9. In the end… • In the end, we got the ring and learned a lot of new things about the body’s digestive system and how it works. We exited the body out of Candace’s nose while she was sneezing. After we got out of the submarine, we made ourselves and the ring back to normal size.
