  4. The introduction to the Constitution that explains the purpose of our government.

  5. What is the Preamble?

  6. These are some of the purposes of government as mentioned in the Preamble.

  7. What is “establish justice” OR “insure domestic tranquility” OR “provide common defense” OR “promote the general warfare?”

  8. We need this purpose of government to keep order. This is why we have laws.

  9. What is keeping people safe, or public safety?

  10. Our government carries out its purposes in order to form this.

  12. These three branches are how our government’s powers are separated

  13. What is Executive, Legislative and Judicial?

  14. This branch makes laws for our country.

  15. What is Legislative Branch?

  16. This branch can declare laws unconstitutional.

  20. This is in place to make sure each branch does not become too powerful. (besides checks and balances)

  22. This documents tells us how to limit the power of our government.

  24. This principle “gives the power to the people” in order to limit our government.

  26. This is when one branch oversees an action of another branch.

  28. Powers NOT granted to the federal government.

  29. What are powers reserved for the states?

  30. Everyone must follow the laws- even government officials. This helps limit the government.

  31. What is rule of law?

  32. This section of the Constitution has 10 amendments that describe many of our individual rights.

  33. What is the Bill of Rights?

  34. This individual right says that our government cannot favor any one religion.

  35. What is Freedom of Religion?

  36. This is our freedom to express our opinion in what we write and what we read.

  37. What is Freedom of the Press?

  38. This amendment has many individual rights, such as Freedom of Speech.

  39. What is the First Amendment?

  40. This amendment says that citizens have many other rights that are not listed in the Bill of Rights

  41. What is the 9th amendment?

  42. This is someone who is knowledgeable about candidates and issues on the ballot.

  43. What is an educated voter or citizen?

  44. This is one every citizen’s responsibility to serve our country (within the Judicial branch)

  45. What is jury duty?

  46. Every citizen has the responsibility to help keep society in order and keep people safe by doing this.

  47. What is following or obeying the law?

  48. When people are donating their time or money to charities it’s an example of work for the _____________.

  49. What is common good?

  50. Citizens must do this so that government can provide goods and services that benefit everyone.
