Christ's humiliation and exaltation #2 9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

S V every tongue will confess 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. tongue – glōssa - the tongue, as an organ of speech Why is “just the knee bowing” not enough ? confess – exomologeō - to agree openly, to acknowledge outwardly, or fully see Rom 14:11, Rom 15:9 & James 5:16 Jesus Christ is Lord What does this imply ?

  9. 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. to the glory of God the Father glory – doxa - of the nature and acts of God in self-manifestation, i.e., what He essentially is and does, as exhibited in whatever way he reveals Himself in these respects, and particularly in the person of Christ Vine see Rom 15:7, 1 Cor 10:31 & 2 Cor 1:20

Summary • For this reason also • God highly exalted Him • Bestowed on Him “the name” which is above every name • So that (or with a purpose that) • every knee will (should) bow of those • who are in heaven • on earth • under the earth • at (in) the name of Jesus • every tongue will (should) confess • that Jesus Christ is Lord • to the glory of God the Father
