  2. Energy for the future • What do you see as energy for the future of China? • Examine the photo and recall the pros and cons of wind power.

  3. Information • In the past two decades, China’s energy output has increased by 6.3 times. This achievement, however, has given rise to problems • environmental pollution and ecological destruction, lots of mounting carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. • Looking at the future, the Chinese government set up a target of quadrupling the size of its GDP in by the year 2020.

  5. Problem • China has an extensive shortage of energy, which may worsen before 2020. • A total of 24 provincial areas imposed power brownouts in the past few months.

  7. Information • China is looking for more sources of power and has hired an energy company to advise them on how to spend their money. They are looking to reduce their reliance on oil and want to develop renewable energies.
