  1. CTAP 295 Final Presentation Stephanie Renteria Chowchilla HS

  2. INTRODUCTION • High School Science Teacher • Advisor of Girl Power and Envirothon • Married and have one child • My website: http://chowchillahigh.k12.ca.us/calendar/renteria/public_html

  3. Expectations • I expected to learn how to create a website • I expected to know how to link my website to other places on the internet • I expected to modify a lesson by incorporating the internet into it

  4. What I Actually Learned • I learned how to insert images from the internet into my website • I learned that making a website is so easy as compared to what I thought was involved • I learned how to make a website pleasing to the eyes

  5. Successes & Shortcomings • One success of the lesson was the students were more intersted in the lesson when they had the opportunity to use the internet. Another success was the students had a chance to improve their internet skills. A few shortcomings were the lack of computers for all students to access the internet and the ease of cheating on the pre-test because they took it on their own in the library.

  6. Shortcomings in a NUTSHELL • Cheating on tests • Lack of linked websites • Too few computers

  7. Successes in a NUTSHELL • Student interest in topic improved • Linked websites improved their knowledge • Students became independent learners

  8. Student Data • The graph at the right shows how well students did on a pre and post-test. One can see that most students improved their scores considerably. A few students did remarkably well in the post-test.

  9. Summary of Revisions • The data was insignificant. I assumed students would do poorly on the pre-test and improve considerably on the post-test after learning the information. • The following revisions were made during CTAP 295: • I made the student website more appealing to the students. • I had to find more websites to link. • I had to change my objectives.

  10. Suggested Revisions

  11. Conclusion!!! • I believe that it is important to encourage teachers to focus their curriculum on the state standards. It helps to organize the curriculum. This activity has allowed me to focus on the standards. I have realized that lessons I have already created are aligned with the standards, but now with the integration of technology into the lesson it has allowed the lessons to explode. Students are able to improve their internet skills and learn the state standards while having fun. • My approach to teaching and my philosophy has changed a little. I realize how much the internet and media can allow students to want to learn. The visual aspects are so key. Students are very visual. I enjoy teaching the material, too, with so many images to show my students from the internet.
