  3. Creativity Jordan is a Kingdom steeped in history and culture. Everywhere you visit, you get a sense of its rich heritage. Actively expressing their creativity, participants will learn and utilize new skills whilst immersed in Jordan’s rich cultural heritage. Students develop a sense of achievement in knowing they are leaving their individual fingerprint on local communities though the activities and work they do in these environments. Mosaics Restoration & Art:The art of mosaics dates back 4,000 years. They are created using tiny pieces of stone and marble to create a picture. At first, they were mostly displayed in religious structures, such as cathedrals and monasteries. Artists still use this popular art form to beautify homes and express creativity. There are workshops all over Jordan, some of which provide training and employment for disabled people. Crafting Sand Bottles:For decades, bottles filled with brightly colored natural sand displaying designs unique to Jordan have been made by artisans in Aqaba and Petra. Materials are collected from surrounding mountains and caves, which are rich with more than twenty naturally occurring shades of sandstone.

  4. Clay Pottery & Ceramics Crafting:Probably the most ancient craft in Jordan is the creation of earthenware products out of Silsal (Arabic word for “clay”). The product of this discovery has become both a science and an intricate art. Creating sturdy, yet beautiful earthenware is a sophisticated procedure involving a good deal of experimentation with different raw materials and methods. Creativity Glass Blowing:As both a functional and decorative craft, glassmaking was practiced in ancient Egypt and Syria, and further developed by the Romans, who invented the glassmaking method of glass blowing. Making Natural Olive Oil Soap: For generations, wherever olives were grown, rural communities used their oil to make soap rich in antioxidants and gentle on sensitive skin. In Jordan, this traditional craft has been revived. Near the village Orjan, a house has been converted into a cottage workshop where local women hand-make a selection of high-quality natural olive oil soaps. Medicinal herbs and fragrant fruit and flowers like mint, cinnamon, pomegranate, lavender and geranium are also added.

  5. Creativity Oriental Rug Weaving:In the past, both nomadic Bedouins and villagers created hand woven rugs using ground looms or upright looms. This handicraft began to fade away as the Bedouins started to settle. In order to preserve the art, however, Jordanian artisans worked in partnership with the Save the Children Charity Organization and the Noor Al-Hussein Foundation to establish the Bani Hameeda Project, a self-help rug weaving "Cottage Industry" which provides independent supplemental income for rural and urban women. Jordanians continue to weave handmade rugs in the traditional dark shades of green, red, black and orange. Hand Made Embroideries: An internationally admired Jordanian craft is embroidery. Cross-stitch is the most commonly practiced method, with the weaver employing a combination of various colors and designs on Thobes (Arabic for “dresses”), shawls and cushions. In earlier days, Palestinian and Jordanian women wove dresses for their own personal use. Starting at an early age, young girls often embroidered their own wedding dresses.

  6. Creativity Henna Art & Tattoo Design:Skin decoration in the Arab world is practiced mostly by women and takes the form of designs on hands and feet using henna, which fades away after a few weeks.  Henna is made out of a plant that is dried, ground to a dust and then made in to a paste by adding essential oils. Henna originated from the Arab culture and remains fashionable to this day, growing in popularity in other countries. Hand Crafting Silver Jewelry: The Jewelry designs reflect the nature of each area in Jordan, taking inspiration from wildlife or ancient rock art found in the Jordanian desert & reserves. The motifs have been created both by top designers and also the local women themselves.
