Modes of Persuasion. Ethos, Pathos, Logos. Ethos(Credibility). Ethos is an argument based on character. The speaker tries to gain the audience’s trust. Speaker gets the audience to respect him/her as a figure of authority on the subject(expert or knowledgeble on the subject)

  2. Ethos(Credibility) • Ethos is an argument based on character. The speaker tries to gain the audience’s trust. • Speaker gets the audience to respect him/her as a figure of authority on the subject(expert or knowledgeble on the subject) • “I am an ethical expert, so believe what I say.”

  4. Pathos(emotion) • Pathos = argument based on feelings • Speaker tries to drive an emotion from the reader or audience

  6. Logos(logic) Logos is an argument based on facts, evidence and reason. Using logos means appealing to the readers’ sense of what is logical.

  17. Logos • Evidence: • Gives information about Sylvan learning center • States a fact about how much knowledge children lose over the summer.

  18. Ethos • Using an authority figure to represent(sports)-Kobe • Try it, it worked for Kobe –Personal Experience-Kobe drinks vitamin water, wins championships.

Take it from me, smoking negatively effects your life Smoking causes your lungs to be coated in a black tar. It causes your lungs to shrink in capacity to hold air.   21. Ethos, Pathos, or Logos? When it comes to saying no to drugs, we don’t need to worry about our youth as much as we think. Most young people disapprove of their friends using marijuana. The 2010 National Survey on Drug Use and Health showed that 83.3% of teens (4 out of 5) disapprove of their friends using marijuana. The majority of young people believe there is a great risk in smoking marijuana. Also, the 2008 National Survey on Drug Use and Health showed that more than half of all young people surveyed reported a great risk of using marijuana once or twice a week.
