  1. Legendsof Coimbra THE TRUNKS OF MONTEMOR

  2. Legend • It is said that in the ancient castle of Montemor-o-Velho two trunks are buried , one full of gold and the other full of virus. The origin of the story dates back to the time when a strict governor, who had an only daughter, didn’t want anyone to see her. He thought she was the greatest treasure in the world, only for him.

  3. Legend • One day, when the girl was already a woman, one of his faithful knights fell in love with her but her father didn’t want to hear of such a possibility. When the man insisted, he decided to arrest and sentence him to death. When the girl heard of the tragedy she tried to act as mediator but her father remained insensitive.

  4. Legend • The young girl had no idea of the great love that the knight devoted to her and decided to visit him in the secret dungeons. This love “should already be written in the book of fate”, as she soon fell in love with the knight and both ran away from the castle.

  5. Legend • His capture was easy. When they were brought to the governor, this became even more furious because he realized that his daughter had married the knight. So for revenge, he decided to give them a damn gift: two trunks, one with gold and the other one with virus. Then, the young couple, who loved each other a lot, decided to go away, leaving behind the two trunks that nobody dared to open and which are still buried in the castle walls of Montemor-o-Velho.
