  3. Overview • The KIVA3 project was carried out as part of the Virtual Polytechnic’s operations between 2004 and 2006. • One outcome of the KIVA3 project was the present material linked to academic writing—especially Bachelor’s theses—in English.

  4. Instructions for Tutors • The field of academic writing can be approached from different perspectives. In this project, the broad field of academic writing was divided into four areas that should be considered during the writing process, namely • Style • Grammar • Thesis structure • Topic and audience • The present material deals with issues of grammar and style that have proved to be worthy of attention for students producing Bachelor’s theses at Finnish polytechnics. • This material was produced in a flexible format so that relevant parts can be adapted for and integrated into existing courses or materials.
