  2. Facts About Childhood Obesity One In Five Children Are Overweight By Age 6 Obese children are more likely to also be obese as adults.

  3. Facts About Childhood Obesity One-Third Of High School Students Get The Recommended Amount Of Exercise In 2011, only 29% of high-schoolers in a survey participated in 60 minutes of physical activity each day, which is the amount recommended by the CDC.

WA State Laws and Regulations in Fitness Education Minutes in Physical Education • Grades 1-8, an average of 100 instructional minutes of physical education per week • High School Graduation Requirements • Health education (.5 credit) and physical education (1.5 credits) • Waiving Physical Education • Outlines parameters for excused physical education Physical Education • Outlines physical education and equivalency credits

WA State Laws and Regulations in Fitness Education Basic Education Act • Outlines expectations for what students should know and be able to do by the end of their K-12 education Assessments – formerly know as Classroom-Based Assessments • Emphasizes alignment with state health and fitness learning standards and assessments Special Education Students • Explains services available to PE students receiving FAPE Nutrition and Physical Activity (Wellness) – emphasizes the goals for wellness polices • Access to nutritious foods and exercise • Food choice, physical activity, childhood fitness Common Core State Standards – provides an integrated model for literacy and mathematics in health and fitness and other disciplines
