  2. 1. Goal & Background K-US Science Cooperation Center • A. Background • President promises to establish a center for Korea-US S & T cooperation in Washington D.C. area. • It was made on July 23, 1995 in San Francisco during his travel for the Korea-US summit meeting • KOSEF promotes to establish the center under the auspices of the Ministry of Science & Technology as of January ‘96. • KOSEF opens the center and initiates its operation as of Feb. ‘97 • B. Goal & Function • To contribute to the advancement of science and technology of the two countries by promoting collaboration • Promote & support Korea-US joint S&T activities • Support linkages between Korea & US scientific communities • Enhance Korea-US collaboration through Ko-Am scientists www.kosef.re.kr 1

Location & Building • Location : 1952 Gallows Rd, Vienna, Virginia • Tysons Corner business center area near D.C. Beltway • Building : 3FL Bldg.(’85) with a space of 42,529SF (Land : 83,000SF) • Facilities : Conference room(100 persons), Parking lot (155 cars) • Purchase price : US$4,780,000(Yr1996) • Total costs : US$5,975,000 (including renovation costs) www.kosef.re.kr 2
