  1. WEATHER AND CLIMATE Weather associated with anticyclones Nekaisha Legerton

  2. WHAT IS AN ANTICYCLONE ? • An area of high pressure with circulation of winds around a central region of high atmospheric pressure

  3. FUN FACTS • Winds go in a clockwise direction in the Northern Hemisphere • Winds go in an anticlockwise direction in the Southern Hemisphere • Anticyclones appear on weather charts as a series of concentric, widely spaced isobars of 1000 mbs and above. The roughly circular closed isobar at its central region indicates the area of highest pressure.

  4. HOW ARE ANTICYCLONES FORMED? • When weather is cold in the atmosphere, it falls towards the earth’s surface. • the weight of air increases, pressing on the earth’s surface. • which means the air pressure is high

  5. DIAGRAM OF AN ANTICYCLONE

  6. WEATHER CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH ANTICYCLONES IN THE WINTER • clear skies • very low temperatures • calm, or light winds • no precipitation • frosty conditions

  7. WEATHER CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH ANTICYCLONES IN THE SUMMER • clear skies • high temperatures • calm, or light winds • no precipitation
