  4. Learning ERA Earned Run Average • ERA stands for: • It is a way of telling how productive a pitcher is during the course of a season, and his career.

  5. Learning ERA • Earned Run: “Every time a run scores on a hit, sacrifice, sacrifice fly, wild pitch, bunt, base on balls, stolen base, fielder's choice, put-out, or balk a pitcher will be charged an earned run.”

  14. Practicing ERA Equation for finding ERA: # of EARNED runs # of innings pitched 9 • You multiply by 9 because an ERA is the average number of earned runs a pitcher gives up per full game. A regular baseball game consists of 9 innings.
