  2. Acceptable Use of the Netbooks MW

  3. Carrying the Netbook The user should transport and store the computer in the supplied case and secure it in a backpack. MW

  4. No food or drinks near the computer! MW

  5. Netbooks are for second grade student use only! Please do not let friends, brothers, or sisters use the netbooks. LP

  6. Defacing school property Writing on, defacing, or placing stickers on the equipment is prohibited. A student who engages in any willful destruction of the equipment will be disciplined according to Craven County’s policies and procedures. LP

  7. Safekeeping of the Netbook • Please use your computer on a sturdy table. • Families are to pay an $24.36 annual insurance fee before the laptops are distributed. • Families are responsible for reporting the damage, loss, or theft of the laptop within 24 hours. • The netbook is the property of our school and has been loaned to your child. Any failure to comply with the policies will result in loss of the computer. • You can pay tonight! Please pay by Sept. 24. LP

  8. No extra software or downloads allowed. • Please do not load any software applications on the netbook. • Please do not delete any files or programs without the teacher’s permission. LP

  9. Do the right thing! • Please reference the Craven County School’s Acceptable Use Policy (page 72-79). • This policy can also be accessed online at www.craven.k12.nc.us. • The history of the netbook will be checked regularly - no privacy. NA

  10. Do not disassemble computer. NA

  11. Monitor your child at all times. The school’s filtering software will not work if you are connecting to a wireless network from home. NA

  12. Students and families should not alter the computer settings or software. • Loading applications • Changing the desktop picture • Changing the computer name or system settings • Changing or removing operating system components or files • Removing or clearing your internet browsing history or files • Altering the security/filtering software • Altering the preloaded operating system or applications • Taking apart the computer and accessing the internal parts NA

  13. Passwords • The netbook will be password protected. • Please do not share the user name and password with anyone other than parents. AD

  14. Please read and sign the policy. • Sign at the bottom of side 2 (highlighted). • Write your child’s name below your signature. AD

  15. Let’s Have Fun! Yes, there are many rules! However, this is a unique opportunity for our students. We hope that this will give your child a boost towards learning the second grade technology skills and 21st century learning. AD

Next Steps: • The netbooks will be brought into the classrooms in October. • Students who have paid the insurance will begin to use the computer on a regular basis. • We will communicate through our weekly newsletter when the class is ready to take the computers home for homework purposes. It will most likely be late fall. • The homework assignments will not require internet access. MW
