  2. French • At Bromstone Primary School we teach French as a foreign language. • We also teach British Sign Language.

  3. Tongue twisters • Every French lesson starts by a range of tongue twisters. • “Troistortues qui trottaientsurtroistoitstrèsétroits.” • “Ces six saucissonssontsisecsqu’on ne saitsis’ensont”… • The use of tongue twisters is a very good way to practice the sounds of a language especially with young children.

  4. Puppets • To achieve our targets in French we are using puppets. • Puppets allow children to speak confidently. • There are videos of children using the puppets on our website.

  5. Games • We are using a range of games and have lots of resources made year after year.

  6. Singing • We sing songs at the end of every French lessons. • We are using “Tous les jours” an Out of Ark Music resource. • We are doing one French Singing assembly a term. There is a video of a French Assembly on our website.

  7. Reading in a foreign language. • The French teacher of the school is a native French and she reads stories in French to the children from year R to year 6. • For example, year 1 topic was Anthony Browne last term and we’ve been reading two stories written by him in French.

  8. Assessment • from 3 years, all year 6 are making a power point in French by the end of the year using their knowledge in this language.( Ask Caroline for any examples of these from last year). • We are working on the “French booklets” for children to progress in French at their rhythm.(Same idea as the Spelling and Numeracy booklets). • These will contain different levels up to 10 and will help the children to memorise vocabulary and few sentences in French.
